“A fool utters his whole mind, but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.” Proverbs 29:14 Words slip out of the mouth like a river, and yet the fool is lacking in wisdom, and Proverbs 17:7 says it well. “Excellent speech becomes not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.” So often the words of a fool are without any wisdom, and the harshness of the words produces scars on a soul, but Paul said it very well this morning in Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Wisdom is justified of her children. The words we speak have power to build up, or tare down a soul. Gracious words even in correction are like medicine to the soul. Ecclesiastes 10:12 says it well. “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.” No wonder the admonition of the Lord is that we be slow to speak and swift to hear. Discernment is the foundational rock we stand on. Let the love and compassion of Christ be your guide and the words of your mouth will follow His example.
