Let Freedom Ring

‘Let freedom ring’ is the sentiment celebrated on this day. But regarding this thought of freedom there are some very different interpretations. For some this freedom means to throw off every claim of a legitimate authority including the appropriate laws (Psalm 2:2-3). This is not freedom but open rebellion where we desire to be a law unto ourselves. With autonomous spirit each man will do what is right in his own eyes and pain and suffering will surely follow for individuals, families, communities and nations.Let Free

For those in Christ, we have been given freedom to serve Jesus as Lord, which implies that we have given up the claim of being our own Lord. As we are saved we turn to God’s Law and with the power of the Spirit, we seek to obey and here we find liberty and are blessed (James 1:25). True freedom is to have our affections changed from fleshly and sinful to honorable and noble. This transformation occurs as we meditate on God’s Law day and night (Psalm 1:2). In Christ we have been given liberty which is to be used to live eternally and not unto licentious living that leads to death.
